"Some of the background music selections are very enjoyable. In general, the music fits the surroundings and creates an environment accurate to the setting." -

"The tunes were well composed and not really bad, per se, but on the other hand they didn't exactly make me feel the scene or emotion like other soundtracks do." -

"Hiroki Kikuta's music has more of a Japanese feel and sound to it, which is accentuated by the two great Japanese vocal themes, Quake and Lovely Strains. The music's style as a whole is extremely lively and more upbeat than the predominantly orchestrated compositions of traditional RPG's such as Final Fantasy: most likely due to the more action-oriented gameplay." -

"Hiroki Kikuta once again proves his talents with a simply amazing soundtrack." -

"With Hiroki Kikuta, the composer of the music in Seiken Densetsu 2 and 3 for Super Famicom, in charge of the music, one would think that it would be safe to assume that the game's soundtrack would be nothing less than fantastic. However, Koudelka features what must be the very worst battle music that has ever been used in a console role-playing game. It is slow-paced and it doesn't sound anything like RPG battle music should sound like. It feels more like the music that you would here during a touching romantic scene and not something that goes with battling for your lives against an onslaught of enemy attackers. It's so slow and boring that it might just put some players to sleep." -

"The soundtrack fares poorly, which is somewhat surprising because composer Hiroki Kikuta is one of the more renowned music talents to have worked with Square. Generally, no background music plays during area map play; the tunes pretty much restricted to battles, so there are very few of them. In addition, even though most of the music tracks contain promising ideas, none of them ultimately prove to be anything more than run-of-the-mill game music compositions." -
